Frequently Asked Questions
About winpie's calculators, data privacy, and using these tools in Taiwan.
›What is winpie?
winpie is an online retirement and asset planning toolkit for Taiwan residents. All tools are pure mathematical calculators — no investment advice, no sales of financial products.
›Is winpie free to use?
Yes, 100% free. The site is funded by Google AdSense display ads. No sign-up, no financial products to buy, no subscription.
›Does winpie store my numbers? Is any data uploaded?
All calculations run in your own browser. To save you from re-entering numbers on return visits, some tools persist inputs in your browser's localStorage (on your device only) — nothing is uploaded to winpie or any third party. Clearing your browser data removes it.
›Does winpie give specific investment advice?
No. The site is a math-calculation toolkit. We do not recommend specific stocks, ETFs, funds, brokers or financial products. This is both our editorial stance and required under Taiwan's Securities Investment Consultants regulations. All investment decisions should be made based on your own judgement or consultation with a qualified professional.
›Can foreign nationals living in Taiwan use these tools?
Yes — this is actively one of our target audiences. The English version at /en covers Taiwan-specific tools (labor pension, income tax, overseas income AMT, health insurance, etc.) that are especially useful for expats. Tools marked TW-specific implement Taiwan's statutory formulas.
›How accurate are the calculation results?
All formulas are based on publicly available regulations or academic literature (Taiwan income tax brackets, Labor Standards Act, Trinity Study, etc.). Real-world individual cases may involve special deductions, exemptions, or transitional rules, so always verify against official sources (National Taxation Bureau, Bureau of Labor Insurance, etc.) before filing or acting on the numbers.
›Are the tax and pension numbers up-to-date?
Tax brackets, labor pension parameters, and health insurance rates use 2024 figures (with 2025 announced items already updated where applicable). We update when regulations change. Always verify against official Ministry of Finance announcements for actual filings.
›Does the 4% Rule (Trinity Study) apply to Taiwan?
The 4% rule comes from historical U.S. market data (1994–1998 studies), assuming a U.S. stock/bond portfolio over a 30-year retirement. Taiwan's market volatility, inflation structure, and rising life expectancy differ, so a slightly more conservative 3–3.5% withdrawal rate is commonly discussed for Taiwan. See the 4% Rule and Trinity Study articles on the site for details.
›Why are there ads? Is there a way to support the site?
Google AdSense is winpie's only revenue source — it lets us keep the tools free forever without selling financial products or brokering referrals. Ads are completely independent of the calculators (we do not recommend anything either way). If you want to support us, whitelist winpie.tw in your ad blocker.
›Can I share winpie or cite it in a blog post?
Please do. Just link back to the original page — no permission needed. If you spot a calculation bug, please file an issue on our GitHub repo or email us.
